Getting there
Flying In ✈️
For guests traveling internationally, your entry point into Perú will be Jorge Chávez International Airport in Lima (LIM). From there, take a connecting flight into Alfredo Rodriguez Ballón International Airport (AQP).
Getting Around 🚖
The easiest way to get downtown from the airport is by taxi. You will find kiosks for various official taxis after arriving at the airport where you can easily book a cab.
For getting around Arequipa, walking is best around the historic center. Use official taxis or an app like Uber. Don’t hail a cab off the street.
We recommend arriving Wednesday April 15th in case of any flight issues. Feel free to arrive earlier to sleep off the jet lag, relax, and explore.
Arequipa sits at ~2,335 m (7,660 ft). It’s not as high as Cusco, but you may still feel mild effects. Stay hydrated and avoid heavy meals the first day.
Carry some cash (Peruvian soles)—many small vendors or taxis don’t take cards. ATMs are widely available.
Arequipa is generally safe, especially in tourist areas. Still, keep your valuables secure and avoid walking alone late at night.
April 2026 will be a busy month in Perú due to Easter. Please book your travel as soon as you’re able to.

What to do
Santa Catalina Monastery: A must-see. It’s like a city within a city, with colorful streets and cloisters. Great for photography and history lovers.
Plaza de Armas: The heart of the city—beautiful colonial architecture and a great place to relax. The Basilica Cathedral is worth a visit.
Yanahuara Viewpoint: Offers stunning views of El Misti volcano and the city. Walkable from the center.
Museo Santuarios Andinos: Home to Juanita, the Ice Maiden—a frozen Inca mummy. Fascinating look into Inca sacrifice rituals.
Colca Canyon (day or overnight trip): One of the deepest canyons in the world. Go for hiking, birdwatching (Andean condors!), and small villages like Chivay. Altitude here is much higher—acclimate first in Arequipa.
